Description:Miss Maggie checking in. I have endured a brutal Chicago winter with a LOT of confinement. It was way too icy and my brother and I were not walked as much as usual. I'm a bit fluffy right now, but I'm working on a diet. Things are better now, but mom and dad are working long hours and I'm kind of anxious about being left for so long -- even with my laid-back "brother" Brodie hanging out with me. My daytime setup is a confined back porch with open crate and heated pad and a rug, and I have access to the backyard through a dog door. Even with quick morning walks and chew sticks, I get busy. I have torn up a fluffy dog bed that I dragged outside (they're still picking up the bits of fluff under the bushes) and I like to dig -- mostly under bushes and in the corners, but I also like to rearrange the plants in the flower bed. I have even proclaimed my animosity for the Chicago Bears by dragging out a blankie and trying to bury it in the middle of the yard.
I have a LOT of energy, even though we think I'm 9-10, and these long days are hard on me. I spent one week in Michigan with folks who really wanted me (and have a fenced two-acre yard AND who came home at lunch to feed me), but I wasn't exactly Miss Congeniality and a good playmate for their younger female Brit. So back to Chicago I came in November.
Mom wants me to have a home where I get more time with humans than I do now. I spent a year as a foster in Iowa when I got flooded out in June 08, and I've been in Chicago since. I adjusted well to a household with an older male Brit and a cat who I actually let eat out of my bowl when he wants to! I had that week's "vacation" in Michigan but bounced back. Mom wants to be very careful about placing me, because I'm pretty special and I'm worth more time than I get right now. Right now I'm curled up in a chair in the bedroom. I'd do well in a home with another dog, preferably a male, and I can tolerate life with a cat, but I need lots of walks and a lot of petting -- which means human contact more than I get now!
No sight unseen or long-distance adoptions will be entertained as as its very important for a prospective adopter and their pets to spend time with me before anything is finalized. I am available for the senior companion program, but I will need an active senior for sure. If you're interested in me, please complete the
adoption application.
